Get the makeup look – Rainbow Couture 2011

Last year, I was the makeup artist for the Rainbow Couture 2011 campaign – an exciting shoot shot in a gorgeous location house in London.

Rainbow shoes have several ranges of shoes and the Couture range is an exciting and glamorous new range of shoes, inspired by the allure of the catwalk. The collection combines sensual silk satin and shimmering crystals, with contemporary fashion and beautiful detailing.

If you are a bride who loves a modern makeup look and wants to re-create the striking makeup look I designed for this campaign, these are the products I used:

1) After applying a light moisturiser to the skin, I applied the Daniel Sandler Re-texturising Primer all over the face.

2) I created a flawless complexion using Chanel Pro Lumiere Foundation, followed with the Lancome Effacernes Concealer to cover any imperfections and I set the base using the Daniel Sandler Blotting Powder.

3) On the cheeks, I used one colour of blusher – a small amount of the Daniel Sandler pressed blusher in shade whisper was enough for a gentle glow (don’t use too much though, as the eyes and lips are the main part of this look)

4) The eyes were strong for this look – I used the Lancome Ombre Absolu Duo eyeshadow in shade G01 and I applied the light shade to the brow bone and the soft black shadow to the eyelid. Top tip – when applying black eyeshadow, hold a tissue under your eye to catch any ‘drop down’ and always apply a small amount first and build up to get the intensity you want. Line the eyes using the Daniel Sandler Velvet Waterproof Eyeliner is shade Black Velvet – I lined the eye along the top lash line, the bottom lash line and also in the inner lower rim (avoid the inner rim if you want the look to be more natural).

5) Mascara – always black – I used the Estee Lauder Double Wear Zero Smudge Lengthening  Mascara

6) To complete this look, I used the Daniel Sandler High Impact Lipstick in Peony on the lips, but rather than applying it with a lip brush, I patted it on to the lips with my finger, so it created more of a soft stain of colour.

Get the makeup look – Joyce Jackson Veils

Last year, I created the makeup look for the Joyce Jackson Veils 2011 Collection.

The collection of veils are gorgeous - there are so many to choose from, all in different styles and lengths.

If you love the makeup look in these photographs, here is a step-by-step guide so that you can re-create the look on your wedding day:

The makeup brief was a sophisticated bridal makeup look – if you are going to create smokey eyes on your wedding day, it is essential that your skin is flawless and any blemishes are hidden.

1)Start with a primer, the Daniel Sandler Re-texturising Primer is great.

2)For foundation, apply the Lancome Apply Teint Miracle Foundation all over your face for a gorgeous, light finish to your complexion and cover any imperfections using the Effacernes Concealer.

3)Set your base using the Daniel Sandler Blotting Powder.

4)For cheeks, I used two blushers – the Daniel Sandler Mineral Matte Blusher in shade Rose Bud (apply higher on the cheekbone, out towards the hair line) and then, on the apple of the cheek, apply the Daniel Sandler Watercolour Liquid Blush in shade Cherub.

5)To create this sophisticated smokey eye, take the SUQQU Blend Eyeshadow palette in shade 04 SHUNBOKU, as it is perfect for creating a bridal smokey eye. It has a neutral shade which is a great base and a pretty pink (subtle) shimmer which goes on the lid and brow bone. A medium grey tone creates the perfect contour and a darker grey can be used as an eyeliner to define the eye. You can build this darker grey shade up, to create a more intense smokey eye if you wish. If you love your eyeliner, you can always apply the Daniel Sandler Velvet Waterproof Eyeliner in shade Grey Velvet across the top and bottom lash line and then apply the shadow over the top to set the eyeliner (this will give you a more striking look).

6)Curl your eyelashes and apply the Clinique Lash Power Mascara (long wearing formula).

7)For lips, apply the Estee Lauder Pure Color Long Lasting Lipstick in shade Crystal Rose (creme texture).

Mother-of-the-bride makeup – my guide to the perfect look

After applying the makeup for 100’s of Mother-of-the-bride and Mother-of the groom’s, I know which products deliver the best results and what makeup looks best.

I am also aware of the concerns that they have when it comes to wearing makeup on this special day – they know that they need to look really special (as it is a big day for them as well as the bride), but many Mum’s maybe do not wear a lot of makeup day to day, or have worn the same look for years and it really isn’t right for the wedding day – the colours may not look good with their outfit or they may just need a new look, as what looked great 10 – 15 years ago isn’t right for them now.

So, if you are a Mum who wants some tips on how to apply your makeup, or if you are a bride who knows that your Mum is concerned about this, here is a guide to my top tips for Mother-of-the-bride/ groom makeup.

Before you start, in my experience of making up 100’s of Mums, these are the main concerns to think about/ address:

1)Most Mum’s want their skin to look younger and more dewy, without looking heavy and unnatural.
2) They want their cheekbones to look younger and more defined.
3) They do not want bright colours, they want subtle colours to enhance their features.
4) They want to look natural and sophisticated.

All of the products I recommend below will address the above concerns and help your Mum to achieve a younger, natural and sophisticated look.

FACE:
Start with a primer – use the Daniel Sandler Re-texturising Primer, it diminishes fine lines/ wrinkles and helps prevents makeup from sliding. Or, if your Mum does not have any fine lines / wrinkles, the CLARINS Beauty Flash Balm creates a great base for makeup and gives the skin a slight tightening effect.
Next is foundation – this is so important, as if you apply a heavy foundation it will make the skin look older and the look old-fashioned. I like the new Daniel Sandler Waterbase Foundation and Concealer – this is a clever new Mineral Liquid Foundation, which has a matching concealer in the lid – apply a thin layer of the foundation all over and where needed, apply the concealer (ie under the eyes) and if you want to look a little more ‘made up’, pat this down the center panel.
It is really important to only use a tiny amount of face powder to set the foundation – remember, less is more! Try the MAC Blot Powder.
 Every woman looks younger with a glow to her cheeks . There is one blush that I used on so many Mums, it suits everyone and I always get fabulous comments when I apply it - The Daniel Sandler Blusher in Shade Champagne Glimmer, apply to the apple of your cheek and blend upwards and outwards.

EYES:
 My first tip for eyes is to always define the eyebrows – it really can take years off you if you define your brows. Go lightly, and apply in tiny strokes. Try the Clinique Instant Lift for Brows which has a pencil in one end and a highlighter in the other – you can apply this highlighter just under your brow, for an instant ‘lift’.
I am now going to give you the easiest and quickest way to get natural, bigger looking eyes using makeup. Eye makeup doesn’t need to be complicated – you just need the right products! These are all Daniel Sandler Eyeshadows and Eyeliners and I have used these on so many Mum’s – they have a small amount of shimmer, but no sparkle. Follow this basic guide:
For green/ brown eyes: Opal on the brow bone, Rosy Tan on the lid, Grey Velvet Waterproof Eyeliner Pencil.
For blue eyes: Opal on the brow bone, Guilded Taupe on the lid, Brown Velvet Waterproof Eyeliner Pencil.
Then curl the lashes and use a black, waterproof mascara – try the Estee Lauder Sumptuous Waterproof Mascara.

LIPS:
Lip colour is a very personal thing – some ladies love the look of a bright colour and some ladies like a more natural tone. It really is best to try the lipstick, as colours can look different on different people. However, my 2 most popular lipstick colours for Mother-of-the-bride are Daniel Sandler Luxury Lipstick in shade Pucker this is a really natural pink shade and for a slightly richer shade, shade Loveable is also really popular.

Getting married abroad? Makeup that will withstand the heat

If you are getting married abroad and are applying your own makeup, it is essential that you purchase makeup to take with you that will not only look flawless, but will also stay put in the hot weather.

I do many makeup lessons for brides who are getting married abroad – this way I can show brides how to apply their makeup and they can take the makeup with them for their wedding day. If you do not have the budget for a makeup lesson, here are some tips to help you make the right choice:

The most important thing is to get your makeup base just right. First of all, choose the right primer to go underneath your makeup. This will help your makeup stay on longer – try the Smashbox Photo Finish Primer (www.qvcuk.com). Next to foundation – look for an oil free, silicone based mineral foundation (Daniel Sandler’s Super Mineral Makeup is perfect, www.danielsandler.com) this product also has an SPF to protect your skin.

Remember – if you are going to be spending a few days abroad before you get married, are you going to be sunbathing and have a slight tan? If so, you need to take this into account and maybe buy a foundation a shade darker.

For eyeshadow that lasts, try ESTEE LAUDER Double Wear

Every bride wants her makeup to look perfect from the second she applies it until she removes it when the wedding day is over. Your eye makeup will need to withstand wedding day tears and still look perfect at the end of the evening.

This is possible – we all know that there are many fabulous waterproof mascaras on the market and there are also waterproof eyeliners, but what about your eyeshadow?

I always stress in a makeup lesson how important it is to prepare the eye area for your eyeshadow – always apply foundation on your eyelid first, followed by powder to set it (there are so many clients who forget to do this). This will avoid your eyeshadow creasing, which is not a good look for your wedding day photos!

There are some ladies who seem to have this problem (of eyeshadow creasing) more than others – if this is the case, I recommend first to not apply too much eye cream before your foundation (which will help prevent your foundation sliding off your eyelid).

Estee Lauder Idealist – Pore Minimizing Skin Refinisher

The Idealist range by Estee Lauder minimises the appearance of pores, giving you a visibly smoother, more refined skin day after day. It penetrates deeply to unclog darkened pores, and banishes dull and flaky skin to create clarity, smoothness and luminosity.
