A fantastic concealer from LANCOME that is long lasting and can be used under eyes and on imperfections

Monday, January 2nd, 2012

It isn’t often that you find a concealer that can be used not just under the eyes, but also on any other imperfections such as blemishes or redness. I have found such a concealer from Lancome, which is now a regular item in my kit box.

EFFACERNES (long-lasting softening concealer) blurs fine lines and reduces shadows around the eyes instantly for smooth, more even looking results that truly last. Its soft, fine texture uses a light-diffusing technology to soften facial lines and brighten dull, tired-looking skin. Enriched with cornflower and camomile, it gives your skin an instant feeling of well-being.

This tube of concealer lasts such a long time, as you only need to use a small amount. I apply a tiny amount of this product to the back of my hand and after foundation I can apply this under the eyes using a concealer brush (I then gently smooth the product using my ring finger) and then with the product left over, use it to then cover any other imperfections. It’s such a unique formulation – it isn’t too greasy, isn’t too dry and it lasts all day.

Another top tip is that you can mix it on the back of your hand with a little of your foundation and gently ‘pat’ on the cheek area to cover any redness, then follow with a setting of face powder.

The RRP of this product is £20.45 which I think is so reasonable, considering the quality of the product and how long it lasts.

Dermalogica NEW Concealing Spot Treatment

Dermalogica Concealing Spot Treatment

New packaging, new size, improved formula

The improved formulation behind Dermalogica® Concealing Spot Treatment delivers the same efficient results of controlling breakouts with the added benefits of a new ingredient and convenient packaging. Still part of the Dermalogica MediBac ClearingTMfamily – the new formulation of Concealing Spot Treatment will fit perfectly with your MediBac routine.

I LOVED the old version of this product – so had to tell you about the ‘new and improved version’! Over the years I have been working as a makeup artist, so many ladies and men ask me what they can use to cover blemishes which will make the blemishes heal quicker and not get worse – as piling on lots of foundation and greasy concealers will only make matters worse and I have recommended this product time and time again – and will continue to do so!

Ingredient technology

Unlike many spot treatments, Concealing Spot Treatment is multifunctional, with the needs of adult skin in mind. Far from a concealer, it is a targeted acne treatment powered by the active ingredient Sulfur that both heals and clears, while providing a natural tint ideal for daytime coverage. So if it was such an effective treatment, why the change? As we do research into the latest ingredient technology, we find ways to dramatically improve formulations, while maintaining the effectiveness of the product. This is one of those instances. Adult skin is often a combination of skin conditions, characterized by sensitivity, signs of aging, and inflammation. Compounded with these conditions, adult acne becomes a challenging and pervasive issue. An inflammatory eruption, much like a volcano eruption, leaves all sorts of devastation in its wake- red, broken, sensitive skin that may not heal properly. To complement the clearing and purifying properties of the formulation, we have added Carob Seed Extract (Ceratonia siliqua) to help the skin repair itself while in the treatment process. This botanical extract accelerates the recovery of stressed skin, eliminating redness and strengthening the barrier function. For a comprehensive treatment of breakouts, this improved formula eliminates bacteria, clears excess oil and accelerates the reconstruction of damaged skin, thus minimizing scarring.

Consistency

Unlike other acne treatments, this improved formula has the additional benefit of healing and protecting rather than drying out the surrounding skin, which is reflected in the consistency of Concealing Spot Treatment. The improved formula is creamier for easier spread ability and will not cake upon contact. Simply apply to blemish, let stand for five seconds and pat until blended to provide the skin with lasting acne-fighting and barrier-protecting ingredients throughout the day.

Packaging

Housed in a new travel-friendly tube with needle nose tip, this medicated treatment will combat blemishes while enhancing the skin’s natural recovery process to minimize healing time and prevent future breakouts. So if you already love Concealing Spot Treatment, you’ll love it even more with these added benefits.

NEW Concealing Spot Treatment size: 10ml RRP: £25.00

The new Daniel Sandler Invisible Radiance Foundation and Concealer – complexion perfection for all brides!

Friday, November 25th, 2011

The New Daniel Sandler Invisible Radiance Foundation and Concealer (£28)

The next generation of cosmetics has arrived!

And all brides-to-be who are looking for the PERFECT bridal foundation – look no further!

One of the UK’s best known makeup artists, Daniel Sandler is delighted to announce the latest edition to his existing cosmetics line; a foundation and concealer duo that invisibly transforms skin, delivering a clearer, smoother, more flawless, younger-looking finish (that cares!)

Used alone, the dewy-fresh fluid foundation feels as light as a feather on skin. Accompanied by a complimenting shade of concealer under the mirrored lid, this is your perfect weapon to disguise either under-eye darkness or blemishes. The duo forms the perfect partnership, avoiding the chore of hunting down a match to your base.

Daniel’s ingenious trick is to mix the foundation with the concealer for a more sophisticated finish, ideal for that day to night transition

Both formulas wear beautifully throughout the day, maintaining coverage for many hours, with added ingredients to keep all skin types soft, smooth, and healthy.

Invisible Veil foundation has a ‘caring cocktail’ of vitamins A, C & E to aid skin repair and renewal. The formula is Perfume, Oil and Paraben free.

The concealer has added Vitamin E as an Antioxidant and is also preservative and perfume free

I am known for the flawless, radiant skin I create for my brides on their wedding day and I am incredibly fussy about the formulations I choose to use. The excitement of opening this new bottle and first feeling the creamy (yet not greasy) texture of the concealer had me rushing to try the foundation itself and I can only describe the feeling and quality of this product as sophisticated, flawless and the dewy finish is like adding a youthful glow to your skin – this really is going to be the 2012 foundation for brides everywhere!

The model in the photograph above is wearing the Invisible Radiance Foundation and Concealer – I used it recently in a photo shoot.

If you love the look of her makeup, you can also re-create this whole bridal look, using Daniel Sandler Cosmetics – here is your step-by-step guide:

I applied the Re-texturising Primer all over the face to help the makeup stay flawless for longer.

Next, I took the new Invisible Radiance Foundation and Concealer and applied this pretty, dewy base all over the skin using the Base Brush and using the Concealer Brush, applied the Concealer where needed.

I then used the Watercolour Creme Rouge Bronzer in shade Riviera and applied to the cheekbones (using my fingers) and then applied the Watercolour Creme Rouge Blusher in shade Hush Pink to the apple of the cheeks to give the model her pretty bridal glow.

To set the makeup, I applied a small amount of the Invisible Blotting Powder using the Contour/Powder Brush to the T-Zone and the eyelids (to prevent eyeshadow from creasing).

To achieve the pretty, fresh eyes I created on the cover model, use three of the Sheer Satin Shadows. Using Eyeshadow Brush 1, apply Guilded Taupe from lash line to the contour and using the Smudger Brush, apply a small amount to the lower lashline. Then apply shade Champagne to the centre of the lid using Eyeshadow Brush 2 and then apply a tiny amount of shade Lingerie to the brow bone as a highlighter.

I applied the Velvet Waterproof Eyeliner in shade Velvet Brownto the upper lashline to give definition and to complete the look, I curled the lashes and applied several coats of the Baby Jet Mascarato the upper lashes, and one coat to the lower lashline.

For a gorgeous bridal pout, I used theLip Rouge in shade Dolce and for a pretty shine, I applied the Super Gloss in shade Super Pomegranate

Available in 4 shades:  Porcelain, Beige, Honey, Deep Sand

Strong smokey eye makeup for a bride – get the look

Thursday, September 29th, 2011

More and more brides are asking me to create a smokey, stronger eye makeup on their wedding day. Most of these brides though still want to keep the smokey eye more of a ‘bridal smoky eye’ , which is a softer version of what a call a ‘party smokey eye’!

There are some brides though, who love darker smokey eye makeup and wear a lot of eye makeup on a day to day basis and want to also wear a lot of eye makeup on their wedding day – all brides are different and it is absolutely fine to do this, but you have to use the correct products and application techniques, so that your eye makeup photographs well and stays on all day.

I created the makeup look in these photographs during a photoshoot I did with the fabulous photographer Rosie Parsons (www.rosieparsons.com) and it is a look that many brides who look through my portfolio say that they love, so here is the list of the exact products that I used on this photo shoot (which are all by Daniel Sandler Cosmetics are are available from www.danielsandler.com)

Re-texturising Face Primer apply all over face after moisturiser
Catwalk Compact Foundation applied with a foundation brush
Invisible Veil Loose Powder to set the base
Mineral Blusher in shade Hush Pink apply a small amount to the apple of the cheek

Eyes -ensure that you apply the loose face powder to the eyelids to create a ‘base’ and to avoid eyeshadows creasing.
Apply Cedar Matte eyeshadow from lash line to contour
Apply Dark Grey Matte Eyeshadow from lash line to contour (on top of the cedar) and then along the lower lashline
Then take the Sheer Satin Thunder Eyeshadow and apply on the eyelid to add a little shimmer to the eye and avoid the colour looking flat
Line the top and bottom lashline with the Velvet Waterproof Eyeliner in Black Velvet and also line the inner rim if you want to, for more definition
Curl your lashes and apply the Baby Jet Mascara

Make sure that you hold a tissue under your eye to catch any eyeshadow from dropping down and clean under the eye area after with your foundation brush

Luxury Lipstick in shade Pucker only apply a small amount to the lips, patting the product on with your finger tips and avoid lip gloss if possible – remember the focus it to be on the eyes

The smokey eye makeup look is a look that you are really going to need to practise. Remember, you will be having photographs taken in daylight as well as indoors after, so it is really important to make sure that the makeup is perfect – also have to hand cotton buds to soften any hard lines and blend your eye makeup well. I would also recommend taking photographs of your makeup after you have practised, so you can see how it looks on film.

Get the makeup look – Rainbow Couture 2011

Sunday, July 10th, 2011

Last year, I was the makeup artist for the Rainbow Couture 2011 campaign – an exciting shoot shot in a gorgeous location house in London.

Rainbow shoes have several ranges of shoes and the Couture range is an exciting and glamorous new range of shoes, inspired by the allure of the catwalk. The collection combines sensual silk satin and shimmering crystals, with contemporary fashion and beautiful detailing.

Couture-67

If you are a bride who loves a modern makeup look and wants to re-create the striking makeup look I designed for this campaign, these are the products I used:

1) After applying a light moisturiser to the skin, I applied the Daniel Sandler Re-texturising Primer all over the face.

2) I created a flawless complexion using Chanel Pro Lumiere Foundation, followed with the Lancome Effacernes Concealer to cover any imperfections and I set the base using the Daniel Sandler Blotting Powder.

3) On the cheeks, I used one colour of blusher – a small amount of the Daniel Sandler pressed blusher in shade whisper was enough for a gentle glow (don’t use too much though, as the eyes and lips are the main part of this look)

4) The eyes were strong for this look – I used the Lancome Ombre Absolu Duo eyeshadow in shade G01 and I applied the light shade to the brow bone and the soft black shadow to the eyelid. Top tip – when applying black eyeshadow, hold a tissue under your eye to catch any ‘drop down’ and always apply a small amount first and build up to get the intensity you want. Line the eyes using the Daniel Sandler Velvet Waterproof Eyeliner is shade Black Velvet – I lined the eye along the top lash line, the bottom lash line and also in the inner lower rim (avoid the inner rim if you want the look to be more natural).

5) Mascara – always black – I used the Estee Lauder Double Wear Zero Smudge Lengthening  Mascara

6) To complete this look, I used the Daniel Sandler High Impact Lipstick in Peony on the lips, but rather than applying it with a lip brush, I patted it on to the lips with my finger, so it created more of a soft stain of colour.

Redness Solutions Corrector from Clinique – great for covering redness on your wedding day

Friday, July 1st, 2011

For some brides-to-be / mothers, if they suffer from redness on the cheeks or on their face, it is a big concern to them that this will be worse on the big day. This is because many people find that redness becomes worse if they are nervous or have a drink – both of which are pretty much certainties on a wedding day!

For some ladies, foundation followed by a little concealer where needed is adequate coverage. Other ladies next a little extra help and i’ve found a great product to do this.

I’m not a fan of green concealers under makeup as I find it can look so white that it ends up making the person look so pale, I prefer a yellow based product to counteract any redness.

The Clinique Redness Concealer Corrector is fantastic – it is only £15 and you only need to use the tiniest amount. It is a creamy, yellow-hued  based concealer that immediately neutralises the look of irritation and red skin (one shade works on all skin tones).

I like to apply it after moisturiser and primer, just before foundation – I pat the product gently onto the red area and then pat foundation (plus concealer if required) on top. I’ve tried many products of this nature, but this one is definitely the best and is really easy to use.

Get the makeup look – Joyce Jackson Veils

Sunday, May 22nd, 2011

Last year, I created the makeup look for the Joyce Jackson Veils 2011 Collection.

The collection of veils are gorgeous - there are so many to choose from, all in different styles and lengths.

If you love the makeup look in these photographs, here is a step-by-step guide so that you can re-create the look on your wedding day:

The makeup brief was a sophisticated bridal makeup look – if you are going to create smokey eyes on your wedding day, it is essential that your skin is flawless and any blemishes are hidden.

1)Start with a primer, the Daniel Sandler Re-texturising Primer is great.

2)For foundation, apply the Lancome Apply Teint Miracle Foundation all over your face for a gorgeous, light finish to your complexion and cover any imperfections using the Effacernes Concealer.

3)Set your base using the Daniel Sandler Blotting Powder.

4)For cheeks, I used two blushers – the Daniel Sandler Mineral Matte Blusher in shade Rose Bud (apply higher on the cheekbone, out towards the hair line) and then, on the apple of the cheek, apply the Daniel Sandler Watercolour Liquid Blush in shade Cherub.

5)To create this sophisticated smokey eye, take the SUQQU Blend Eyeshadow palette in shade 04 SHUNBOKU, as it is perfect for creating a bridal smokey eye. It has a neutral shade which is a great base and a pretty pink (subtle) shimmer which goes on the lid and brow bone. A medium grey tone creates the perfect contour and a darker grey can be used as an eyeliner to define the eye. You can build this darker grey shade up, to create a more intense smokey eye if you wish. If you love your eyeliner, you can always apply the Daniel Sandler Velvet Waterproof Eyeliner in shade Grey Velvet across the top and bottom lash line and then apply the shadow over the top to set the eyeliner (this will give you a more striking look).

6)Curl your eyelashes and apply the Clinique Lash Power Mascara (long wearing formula).

7)For lips, apply the Estee Lauder Pure Color Long Lasting Lipstick in shade Crystal Rose (creme texture).

Which makeup products are safe to use on a young flower girl?

Sunday, April 17th, 2011

I am asked this question often – many brides have young flower girls who want to wear a little bit of makeup on the wedding day to make them feel ’special’ (like the older bridesmaids), but ask me how they can do this a) by still keeping them looking young (as there is nothing worse than seeing a tiny girl with lots of makeup on) and b) which products they can use (as very young skins can be so sensitive).

If a brides asks me to add a little bit of makeup to a flower girl – I never use foundation, I simply use a touch of concealer where needed, a little bit of light, pretty eyeshadow on the eyelid, a touch of mascara on the top lashes and a tiny bit of lip gloss – that’s it.

Here’s a few products from Aveda – they are a brand you can trust with young skins as their products are free from mineral oils, rich in anti-oxidants and contain natural waxes. They are such gentle products, which are also suitable for ladies with sensitive skins too.

Here are the products I recommend for a flower girls makeup:

Inner Light Concealer (£15.50) – apply just where needed

Petal Essence Face Accents (£19.50) – apply one of the shades as a wash of colour to the eyelid, then swirl a brush across all 3 colours and apply as a blusher to the apple of the cheeks, for a pretty flush of colour to the cheeks

Mosscara (£13.50) – apply this mascara in one coat to the top lashes

Lip Shine (£11) – pat a tiny amount of this gloss to the lips

You can order these products online and find out more about Aveda Cosmetics at www.aveda.co.uk
